July 2023 was hot, the grass turned yellow. This followed on from the super hot day in August 2022, that broke records. People thought it was going to be a good summer, then July began and it rained almost every day. Then followed a soggy summer and the rain poured for months. Between Christmas Day 2023 and New Years Day of 2024 it was torrential. It ended up being the wettest 18 months, since records began in 1839. Selling water butt kits was a bit like trying to sell suncream in Greenland.
The weather has now been so dry for weeks and we had summer begin at the end of April. The ground is hard, with such low rainfall. However, as 2023 proved, this doesn't mean it will be a long hot summer. However, at times like this it's a reminder how useful a water butt kit is, as they collect and store precious rainwater, during a shower, that can then fill watering cans later. Even a small 100 litre water butt can store enough for 10 average sized 10 litre watering cans. A 1050 litre kit will store enough to fill 100 watering cans. People, after setting up water butt kits, often comment on how surprised they were at how fast they fill up after a few showers, as the water is caught from the surface of the roof, that comes down the drainpipe and is diverted into the water butt via the clever diverter kit. A wide range of water butts can be viewed in the water butts section.
